[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The ext4 and Btrfs1 file systems are supported in DSM 6.0 and above. You can create a volume in either of these file systems according to your needs and preference. Below are our suggestions on which file system to use for creating a volume.

- Data protection features, e.g., snapshot, replication, and point-in-time recovery
- Data integrity protection
- User quotas for each shared folder

- Higher performance and less hardware requirements than Btrfs

- Storing business critical data requiring data integrity and protection
- Recommended for general file sharing, or providing iSCSI LUNs for server virtualization
- Recommended for everyday application for both consumer and business users
- Activating Docker DSM

- Using network shared storages for virtualized environments or database applications
- Using the following functions or packages with performance-oriented requirements:
- iSCSI LUNs
- File server
- MailPlus Server
- Surveillance Station
